Wicked Hollow is a pocket-sized magazine of horror
fiction, poetry, and art. Each 84-page issue has textured card stock
cover, which has come to be a sort of trademark for the magazine,
thick, bright interior pages, and an uncluttered but stylish design.
Pocket-sized, in this case, is not slang for digest, but rather
an honest appraisal of the magazine's unorthodox size. It is only
4.25" wide x 5.5" high, equaling approximately the size of a man's
wallet. One of the terrific draws of the magazine, other than its
stellar, acclaimed contents, is the convenience of tucking it in
pocket, purse, backpack, or nearly anywhere and carrying it about with
you all day until you're finally allowed the opportunity to read it.
But convenience is not the magazine's only selling point. From the
magazine's debut issue in January 2002, before it had any
track record what so ever outside the editor, Jon Hodges's previous
experience, one story (R.G. Evans's "The Man Who Holds Your Hand
Beneath the Pale Moonlight") was recommended for a Bram Stoker Award,
an illustration (Russell Dickerson's art for Joel Arnold's story
"Fetal Position") was selected for publication in the esteemed
fantasy art anthology SPECTRUM 9, available in bookstores everywhere
as of late 2002, and Clark Hays's epic poem "Devosha K. Deeos & the
Disks of Eternity" received a Rhysling Award nomination.
Since then each issue has met with acclaim, a continued increase in
subscriber base, and two more Stoker recommendations. Also, much
buzz about the business, not the least of which include:
"This is truly a stand-alone mag. Wow."
--Kevin L. Donihe, editor of Bare Bone Magazine
"All I can say is, 'wow.' This is everything, in my opinion, that
a good small press magazine should be."
--Cullen Bunn, co-editor of Undaunted Press
". . . this new and promising little entry into the small press
is one to watch . . . already well ahead of what readers can usually
expect from a lot of small press publishing efforts, both in content
and in production quality as well."
--Sarah Arthur, from a review in Burning Sky Magazine
"You should be proud of this accomplishment and I have good feelings
that in a while, this unique and professionally produced book will
become a respected and important part of the literary world."
--Kealan-Patrick Burke, author of Ravenous Ghosts
Below is each available issue of the magazine, which sells for a
modest $4 cover price (no shipping charge in the United States).
You may also
