Excerpt from Evolution of Freedom

freedom didn't come in mercy . . .
     it came in wrath
freedom didn't come in the recognition of humanity . . .
     it came in wrath
freedom didn't come from the development of cognitive morality . . .
     it came in wrath
and yet some folks wonder what's the significance of an angry black man
they wonder why our people feel the need to stand
in the heart of land
cultivated by our ancestors' hands
and have the nerve to resist this
and demand subsistence
while mumbling old Virgian laws
from 1669
that still haven't felt the change of time
