Manuscript submission totals for March-April 2003:
     Poetry: 170
     Prose: 7
For some reason, it seems more difficult to concentrate on writing this year. It may be related to the barrage of disturbing (yet mesmerizing) news stories seemingly assailing us from every quarter. It may be related to the terminal burn-out I am suffering at my day job. Certainly, during my wife's surgery and subsequent hospital detention, the urge to take up the pen never struck.
Gradually, I am returning to writing. In April, I lodged myself in front of the computer for a weekend and turned out a batch of new poetry. Including the new work, I have completed a total of 27 new poems in 2003.
Also in April, I wrote a new short story called "The Night of Shed Skin."

  • Black Satellite will be publishing my story "In the Shadow of Red Wolf Mountain"
  • The literary magazine Moon Reader has accepted my poems "bottles" and "Warning"
  • A revised version of the poem "Tampa" will appear in an upcoming issue of Buckle &
  • Black Petals accepted a batch of new poems including "Backdrop of Death," "Zombie Corpse Boy," "Ullikummi," and "In Dark Oblivion"
In addition, I am pleased to report receiving contributors' copies of the following magazines:
  • Trained Monkey Broadside #16
  • Voicings from the High Country #4 Spring 2003
  • Umbriate Supplemental Issue 1 March 2003
  • Free Verse #60 March 2003
