Advertise with Wicked Hollow MagazineWicked Hollow Magazine has been published quarterly since January 2002. That inaugural, 84 page issue received a Stoker recommendation for one short story, a Rhysling nomination for one long poem, and one illustration was selected for inclusion in the Spectrum art anthology series, Vol. 9. Since then, Wicked has appeared at the beginning of each new quarter perfectly on schedule, always bringing 84 pages of acclaimed and award-nominated fiction, poetry, and art from such talented contributors as Michael Kelly, Darren Speegle, Tim Curran, Jane Gwaltney, Christina Sng, Jason Brannon, Michael A. Arnzen, Bruce Boston, Richard Gavin, R.G. Evans, Spencer Allen, Joel Arnold, Richard Dysinger, Paul Edwards, Russell Dickerson, Eric Asaris, Allen Koszowski, Nick Rose, Marcia A. Borell, Rick Hudson, and many more.
Advertisements in Wicked Hollow are sold on an individual basis. Because Wicked Hollow is printed in an irregular format, pocket-sized, layout becomes mostly entirely unpredictable. Advertisements for each issue are sold depending on what spaces remain open after poems, fiction, and art have been designed in final copy. As a general rule, each issue leaves behind room for one or two half-page ads, one or two quarter-page ads, and sometimes one full-page ad. Each issue has an open back cover for potential purchase.
Rates are negotiable depending on various circumstances and potential trades with other publications or resources, but are generally as follows:
Quarter-page Advertisement: $5
Half-page Advertisement: $8
Full-page Advertisement: $12
Back Cover Advertisement: $15
All purchased advertisements, of course, include a complimentary copy of the issue when it arrives from the printer. All ads must be supplied in grayscale/black and white, preferably in GIF, TIF, BMP, or JPG format. Ads designed in Microsoft Word or PDF can also be used but are a bit more difficult to work with in some circumstances.
If you are interested in buying an advertisement in a future issue of Wicked Hollow, please e-mail Jon Hodges, editor & publisher with your interest. I often won't know what ad spots are to be available for the nearest issue until layout begins, which usually is around the final week of the month prior to release (the final week of February, for example, for the April issue). Back cover advertisements, on the other hand, can be sold in advance of layout, and anyone interested in this spot should contact me as soon as they're certain of their interest.
Wicked Hollow's audience is intelligent, discerning, enlightened, and curious. You can always expect to reach a group of consumers who have a vested interest in literature, poetry, and art, especially of a darker nature, and often of a more underground/small press flavor. Also, because Wicked Hollow is still a fairly new magazine, the subscribership and overall audience is growing exponentially with each new issue, so you can expect to always reach fresh eyes and inquisitive minds with each subsequent ad.
The current print run of Wicked Hollow magazine is 200 copies, but this number will increase as the subscriber base continues to swell and more bookstores & libraries add Wicked Hollow to their regular inventory, as a few have done already.
Also, since this isn't immediately obvious because of Wicked Hollow's size, below are the exact dimensions for each ad spot. Ads can be designed or tweaked for you if you don't already have something to match the following dimensions, or don't have the resources to design your own advertisements, but in some cases this designing by Wicked Hollow of your advertisements may incur extra cost, which will, of course, be shared with you upfront.
